On the heels of our winter tragedy, My Dying City Vol.II (The Social Justice Suicide Hour) --The Kangalee Arts Ensemble's new play explores how harm is defined, performed, and institutionalized in a culture where language itself is contested terrain.
Presented as a featured event of the returning Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) at the American Theatre of Actors, The Harm is a high-stakes drama set inside the dangerous world of an American university.
What begins as a provocative media ecology lecture on truth, race, class, and power unravels into a crisis of perception, accusation, and fear.
THE HARM is an urgent howl against an establishment that too often replaces self-criticism with scapegoating and suppresses radical views or liberatory stances, for example, enabling students to believe they are being "unsafe" when challenged to think critically.
Starring Rommell Sermons, Erin Hyatt, Joy Foster, Melissa Roth, and Dennis Leroy Kangalee this unnerving play is - as BroadwayWorld notes - “a surgical investigation into how language shapes reality,” confronting the divergence between intention and interpretation in a time of danger and instability.
